State Rights Panel seeks report from UP DGP

State Rights Panel seeks report from UP DGPLucknow: UP Human Rights Commission has sought report from the UP DGP as regards the complaint presented by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur regarding stopping him at the outer gate of CM official residence at 5, Kalidas Marg by policemen on 10 March 2016. Previously the Commission had directed the SSP Lucknow to make necessary enquiry in the matter and submit his report within 04 weeks. SSP had asked CO Hazratganj to enquire the matter that did not even record Amitabh’s statement and sent his enquiry report on the basis of report submitted by SO Gautampalli.

Calling it against principle of natural justice, Amitabh had requested proper enquiry in the matter, after which Commission member Asha Tewary has directed DGP to get the matter enquired by an Additional SP rank officer, while giving the complainant an opportunity to present his facts. Amitabh said in the complaint that he was stopped at the outer gate, citing reason of 144 CrPC and high security zone, while he was all alone, which is denial of his constitutional rights.
