It’s upto Balotelli to prove himself: Coach Conte

Milan: Antonio Conte, the coach of Italy today stated that star striker Mario Balotelli has to prove himself like all the others, else he might have to watch Euro 2016 on television.

The 25-year-old has not featured for his country since the World Cup in Brazil last year. For Euro 2016, the Italians have been grouped together with Belgium, Ireland and Sweden and Balotteli posted on Instagram that he “can’t wait” for the tournament to begin.

“He can’t wait for what? To watch us on TV or to play in the Euros?” Conte was quoted as saying by goal.com.

“It’s up to him, just as all the others, to prove himself.”
Balotelli is in AC Milan on loan from English heavyweights Liverpool and so far has managed to score only one goal this season. He also has been missing in action from September owing to a groin injury.

“He has to prove a lot. Really a lot. I have not closed the door on anyone,” Conte said.

“There are five months to the tournament and things could change. However, things have to change in a clear and substantial manner.”

“The players who took us to Euro 2016 qualification have the advantage and someone really has to impress to break into that group.”
