Assam Chief Minister gave one crore rupees to Olympic medalist Lovlina, also offered to become DSP

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today donated Rs 1 crore to Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze medal in boxing competition of the 2020 Olympic Games, and offered the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state police force. Sarma said that the government has also decided to give Rs 1 lakh per month as scholarship till 2024 Paris Olympics to Lovlina, who won the first Olympic medal from the state, as she is eyeing to win a gold medal there.

Sarma said that a road in Guwahati will also be named after him. He said that four coaches of Lovlina – Prashant Das, Padum Barua, Sandhya Gurung and Rafael Gamavaska would be given Rs 10 lakh each as a token of gratitude on behalf of the people of Assam. He also announced that a sports complex with boxing academy would be set up in Sarupathar constituency to promote many more rural talents. The village Baro Mukhiya of Lovlina comes in this area.

Sarma said, “Lovelina has got her name written in golden letters in the history of the state by bringing her the first Olympic medal for the state. We are very proud of her and on behalf of all the people of the state, I congratulate and thank her.” Speaking on the occasion, Lovlina said that she brought a medal for the country and did not return empty-handed, but she was sad for not winning the gold.
