Google has officially started rolling out dark mode for Gmail

Google has been hard at work updating its core apps with dark themes to support Android 10’s built-in dark mode. However, one of the most used and most popular apps has been noticeably absent. That was until today, when Google announced the dark theme for Gmail is officially rolling out.

It’s been a long time coming, but Google has finally started pushing out a Gmail update that gives all Android 10 and iOS users an optional dark mode.

The app will switch to dark mode based on your phone’s setting. Both iOS and Android have dark mode options as a system-wide theme. In The case of Pixel phones, dark mode is also enabled automatically when you switch to the power saving mode.

If you’re using Android 10, dark mode for Gmail will be activated automatically when you select ‘Dark theme’ in your phone’s general settings. Alternatively, you can go into the Gmail app’s settings and change your preferences there.

When you do, you’ll be able to benefit from improved battery life and more comfortable reading after dark – though checking your messages last thing will never be a recipe for a good night’s sleep.

If you do not see the “Dark” option, you don’t need to worry as Google has made it clear that this feature will roll out for all the devices in the next 15 days.
