Agra: Four policemen including a sub inspector Chandra Pal Singh, constables Anuj Kumar, Suraj and Kapil were injured after a group of local shopkeepers attacked them inside Fatehpur Sikri fort on Wednesday afternoon for harassing tourists.

The incident took place at Hazrat Salim Chisti Dargah located 35 kilometers from Agra heartland of medieval in Fatehpur Sikri.

With a video of incident uploaded on internet showed that cops to protect themselves fired in air to disperse local shopkeepers.

Some shopkeepers using baton sticks and clubs against cop after which some of them were taken into custody. Even police cops were seen trying to control the unruly mob.

 

Police cops open fire at shopkeepers for harassing tourists in Fatehpur Sikri:

 

Station house officer of Fatehpur Sikri, Ved Pal Singh said, “The attack on cops occurred after the local police visited the fort after receiving a distress call from tourists. The tourists claimed that they being excessively harassed by touts forcing them to buy expensive ‘chaddar’ and flowers to offer at Hzt Salim Chisti dargah.”

Further adding to this he said, “The on-duty cops identified the shopkeepers-cum-touts and detained two men for harassing the tourists. While the cops were on their way to police station with the apprehended men, some of the local traders surrounded the team and demanded that they release their men immediately.”

On other hand Police teams at various location conducted raid to arrest the men involved in violence while filing this report.

Ved Pal Singh after investigation said, “We have booked over 60 men under various IPC sections including 147 (riot), 148, (rioting, armed with deadly weapon.), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder) and other valid sections.”
