Basically, the real name of this ‘Monkey Bridge’ is ‘Bruce Bridge’ which was constructed in between 1865 to 66 AD under the guidance of the Municipal Engineer Bruce, which passed the Chandaganj road connecting Kaiserbagh with the Badshah Bagh.

 

 

 

Lucknow’s famous ‘Monkey Bridge’ has hidden mystery, real history behind it:

 

Now once this road reached to the Chandanganj Gardens through Monkey Bridge’, which was famous for its guavas but later when the University of Lucknow was constructed in between this stretch it was renamed into University road.

 

 

The Bruce Bridge was a structure with three arches till the bridge was in use in the year 1960 AD but due to damages occurred in this bridge, it was blown away by dynamite.

 

 

After which new pull was constructed on the river Gomti that was called Hanuman Setu which exists till date. Some remnants of old bridges, brick pillars can still are seen.
