Pakistan has expressed displeasure over the non-invitation of Pakistan to the meeting on the issue of Afghanistan chaired by India in the United Nations Security Council. Pakistan’s Permanent Envoy to the United Nations, Munir Akram, said that not inviting Pakistan to the meeting was a violation of the Council’s rules.

India is the President of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August. On not being invited to the 15-member Security Council meeting, Munir Akram said that Pakistan is an important neighbor of Afghanistan and it should have been invited to the Security Council meeting.

“We had made a formal request to attend the meeting but it was turned down. Obviously we were not expecting neutrality with Pakistan under the chairmanship of India.

In response, Munir Akram said that after the effective operation of Pakistan Army in Waziristan, there is no terrorist hideout left. He also said that the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been cordoned off by 97 percent, after which cross-border traffic has come to a halt. Munir Akram said that some regional forces are trying to derail the Afghanistan peace process.
