Biden again overturns Trump's decision, lifts ban on legal immigration

US President Joe Biden has given the very good news by removing the ban on issuing green cards in the country to professionals from all over the world including Indians. With this, the Biden administration has overturned a major decision of the previous Trump administration. This announcement of lifting the ban on green card issuance is expected to benefit millions of Indian workers in America.

Advocates said that a ban on green cards was stalling legitimate immigration to the US. Former President Donald Trump last year banned the issuance of green cards by the end of 2020, citing the growing unemployment caused by the coronavirus in spring, which he extended until December 31 this year.

Biden said that it is not in the American interest to stop legitimate immigration, rather it hurts America. This is because it includes preventing US citizens or family members of lawful permanent residents from visiting their relatives here. It also affects America’s industries, which are part of talented people around the world. According to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, most of the immigration visas were banned by these orders.

Trump’s decision was strongly condemned by US lawmakers. He said the temporary suspension of H-1B visas and other non-immigration visas would harm Asia’s highly skilled personnel, as well as American businesses that depend on migrant workers. MP Judy Chu also condemned Trump’s decision. Explain that 80 percent of the H1-B visa holders in the US are from Asia.
