US Special Envoy on Climate Crisis John Kerry has stressed that all 17 major carbon-emitting countries, including India, China and Russia, need to come forward and cut emissions. He also said that all countries should intensify their fight against climate change. America has officially rejoined the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Earlier, former President Donald Trump had pulled the US out of the agreement.
Kerry said on Friday, ‘It must be done with a sense of doing everything on a quick basis and with the commitment that we have to win this battle. We need that every country including America should commit to the path of zero-emission by 2050. He said, ‘It is necessary to be aware of what action we will take in the next 10 years. China is the world’s largest (carbon) emitter, and in such a situation, whatever efforts are made between 2020 and 2030, Beijing needs to be a part of it.
Kerry said, ‘India needs to be a part of it, Russia needs to be a part of it. Similarly, Japan and the major 17 emitting countries really need to take steps and start reducing emissions. ‘
The 26th Climate Conference (COP 26) of the United Nations will be held in Glasgow in November this year. The Paris Climate Agreement was signed in the year 2015. Under the agreement, India had committed to cut greenhouse gas emissions of its GDP by 33-35 percent. Also, there was talk of increasing the use of non-fossil fuel.
