Khaali Peeli a Fun ride with Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday

Khaali Peeli was marketed as a true blue masala entertainer that’s packed with all the quintessential elements of a Bollywood flick. It promised a decent star cast with good acting skills, a young romantic lead, music, action, values and much more. Now since that’s off our way, let me share the synopsis of the story.

Story: Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday starrer Khaali Peeli released on Zee Plex. The film is an out and out Bollywood masala entertainer with a predictable plot. The story of the film revolves around money and of course Ishaan and Ananya’s characters. Ishaan aka local cabbie Blackie stumbles upon this pretty girl Pooja (Ananya Panday) in the middle of the night. Pooja is running from some goons who are after a ton of cash and jewellery which she have. Apparently Blackie and Pooja have some old connection. The story goes on with some colourful songs and a massive action scene.

Direction: This is Maqbool Khan’s second film after his first released ‘Lanka’ in 2011. Since this was a masala entertainer, Maqbool did a quite decent job. The film has a touch of typical Ali Abbas film. The script is undoubtedly good which makes the film more acceptable. The film doesn’t go over the top even if it is a masala film parts of it feels real and grounded. The filmmakers have tried to take the audience into the times when masala movies were a thing and it helps us keep the nostalgia of massy Bollywood films alive.

Performances: There is no doubt that Ishaan is getting better and better after every film. He easily slips into the skin of the character which makes him even more believable. From looking like a typical taxi driver to accepting the lingo and its attitude without tumbling a single time makes him the star attraction of the film.

While Ananya was a disappointment, it was quite difficult to accept her in the ‘Mumbai ki chori look’. This was not Ananya’s cup of tea, instead of her Alia could have done it way better. Thumbs down for her fake mavali lingo.

Jaideep Ahlawat did a decent job as usual. He is an experienced actor and this shown in his performance too.

Music: Vishal-Shekhar is the big name for music but this time the duo failed to make us go aww. The songs were not that chatty even if the visuals were very fresh and colourful.

Final Verdict: It’s a one time watch masala film with several loopholes. Khaali Peeli may take you to the time when films were colourful the villains were evil but funny. You can watch the film in the comfort of your home that is the best part of it and of course, Beyoncé will not mind if you secretly enjoy the songs!
