The Dalit girl from Hatras in UP who was victim of gangrape lost the battle with life. She died at Safdarganj Hospital in Delhi at 3 am on Tuesday. She was on a ventilator support. On September 14, four alleged Upper Caste men brutally gangraped her in a farm, cut her tongue after a gangrape and broke her spine. She was found unconscious in a millet field.

According to doctors at the hospital, there are many deep wounds on her body. Her throat was strangled by the dupatta she wore.

According to the family, on the morning of September 14, the girl, her elder brother and mother went to cut grass in the forest near the village. When a bundle of hay was tied, the elder brother took it home. The mother and daughter were left alone on the farm. Mother was mowing the grass ahead. The girl was collecting the grass at some distance when the four accused dragged the victim to the millet field with the dupatta lying around her neck and gangraped her.

Hathras police have so far arrested four accused named Sandeep, Ramkumar, Luvkush and Ravi in ​​the case. All four allegedly belong to upper caste families. However, Dalit organizations allege that the police tried to cover up the matter.

According to them, initially the cops just registered a case of attempted murder. The same persons were accused but none was arrested for ten days. The accused were arrested when Dalit leader Chandrasekhar tweeted and announced to go to Aligarh. A section on gangrape was also added later. However, the police say that the first case was registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family and later the case of gangrape was registered on the basis of the victim’s statement.

The victim was admitted to Aligarh Medical College where the police had reached on September 19 to take her statement that is five days after the incident. The victim’s condition was serious that day and she could not record her statement. Then on September 21 and 22, circle officers and women police personnel arrived to take the victim’s statement.
