Supreme Court imposes fine of Rs 1 on Prashant Bhushan, imprisonment for three months if not given

The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of one rupee on senior advocate Prashant Bhushan in the contempt case. If Prashant Bhushan does not pay the fine, he will be imprisoned for three months and his practice for 3 years.

The Supreme Court has given him time till September 15 to pay the fine. After the court’s decision, Prashant Bhushan will hold a press conference at 4 pm today, in which he will reveal his further strategy.

On August 14, the court rejected Prashant Bhushan’s explanation on these tweets and held him guilty of contempt. He was given time to apologize unconditionally but refused to apologize.

Prashant Bhushan while filing his reply said that he will not apologize for his tweet and he is adamant on it.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra has pronounced its judgment against Prashant Bhushan.

As a punishment under the Contempt of Court Act, Bhushan could face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of two thousand rupees or both, but the court has imposed a fine of only one rupee on him in this case.
