Take the walking laborers to the shelter site and give them all the facilities : Supreme Court

Migrant workers are returning to their state due to Corona infection and lockdown in the country. He is facing a lot of difficulties while returning back to his home.

The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter on Tuesday. Justices Ashok Bhushan, Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MR Shah had sent notices to the Center, States and Union Territories asking them to respond by May 28. The court asked what steps have been taken to improve their condition.

The hearing took place in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The Supreme Court said during the hearing that ‘take the walking laborers to the shelter site soon and give them all the facilities’.

The court said during the hearing that we are concerned that the migrant laborers are facing difficulties while going back home.

We have noticed that there are many flaws in the process of registration, transportation as well as their food and drink arrangements. The court also said that it is the responsibility of the state governments to send migrant laborers home.

During the hearing, the Center told the Supreme Court that so far 91 lakh migrants have been sent to their homes. Of these 80 percent are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
