Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana on October 21

New Delhi: Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana will be held on October 21, the Election Commission announced on Saturday.

Counting of votes in both the states will be held on October 24, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said at a press conference here.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said the notification for the elections in the two States would be issued on September 27, the last date for candidates to file nominations would be October 4, the date for scrutiny of nominations would be October 5 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature would be October 7.

“Haryana has 1.82 crore registered voters and Maharashtra has 8.94 crore voters” said Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora.

Chief Election Commissioner also appealed to the political parties to avoid use of plastic in campaigns, as he said, “Election campaigns impose an environmental cost upon us. We appeal to political parties to avoid use of plastic and use only environment-friendly material in their campaigns.”
