Google-powered OnePlus TV to be an Android Device

BENGALURU: The first OnePlus TV will be an Android device loaded with Google Assistant, Chromecast built-in and Google Play, the company announced on Saturday.

“Google has been strategic to us in India since the beginning, furthering our efforts towards our goal.

“We believe that with our combined expertise, we can move ever closer to improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, and intelligent functionality,” said Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India.

OnePlus’ philosophy of delivering a ‘fast and smooth’ user experience on its smartphone will now extend to its smart TV as well. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has already told India Today Tech in an interview that the company has worked with Google to optimise Android TV for the OnePlus TV in a way other TV manufacturers have not been able to. One of the outcomes of this close partnership is the OnePlus TV receiving software updates for at least three years.

“We have always had a very positive relationship with content providers in India, who have always been willing to partner with us, which guarantees great content for our users,” he said recently.

India will be the first market to receive the OnePlus TV, which shows just how important the Indian market is to the brand. The OnePlus TV is expected to launch sometime in September and will go on sale on Amazon India.
