BSP supremo Mayawati surprises everyone by not contesting Lok Sabha 2019 polls

Lucknow: With symbol of Elephant, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati surprises not only its alliance Samajwadi party but also to opposition as well after by announcing that she is not contesting Lok Sabha elections.

The statement of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati on Wednesday surprised everyone after she said that she will not contest the Lok Sabha elections this year as one of her competent party Congress announced not to field contestant against her and alliance.

She while speaking to media persons at press conference in Lucknow said “Our coalition is doing good…I can vacate a seat and contest for the Lok Sabha later if I want,” Mayawati announced in a press conference. But for the good of the country and the people, I don’t want to contest the polls right now, she added.

BSP has joined hands with arch rival Samajwadi Party to jointly contest the polls in Uttar Pradesh.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BSP got nearly 20 per cent votes in Uttar Pradesh becoming the third largest after BJP (42.3 per cent) and Samajwadi Party (22.2 per cent) — although it has failed to win a single seat.
