Today is Govardhan Puja, know about its Puja Vidhi, Muhurat, Time, Samagri and Mantra. The favorite festival of lights is here and while Diwali in itself is a grand celebration there are several other occasions that precede and succeed this special day of celebration.
One such festival is the Govardhan festival which generally occurs on the first lunar day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik. This year, Diwali will be observed on November 7, and it is followed by Govardhan Pooja on November 8.
All these days have myriads of stories and significance attached to them, along with a set of distinct rituals associated with them. Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut/Annajoot, which means mountain of food, is observed by Hindus all across the country.
On this occasion, devotees prepare a variety of dishes as offerings to Lord Krishna. The offering is done in the form of a food mountain, which is symbolic of Govardhan Hill. Over 56 varieties of food items are prepared on this day.

Govardhan Puja 2018 Puja Vidhi and Samagri:
It is believed that Lord Krishna advised people to pay their respect and gratitude to Mount Govardhan through offerings of food – he asked them to create a mountainous offering of delicacies for a ‘giri yagna’. Krishna then assumed the form of a mountain and accepted the food people had to offer. To commemorate this, on the day of Govardhan Puja, devotees prepare vegetarian meals of different kinds and offer to Lord Krishna.
On this day, people across the country create a hillock made of cow dung, that symbolically refers to Govardhan mountain. The hillock is also decorated with flowers before the puja.

Pratipada Tithi starts at 9:31 pm on November 7, 2018, and ends at 9:07 pm the next day.
Govardhan Puja Pratahkal Muhurat is between 6:42 am to 8:51 am, that is, a total duration of 2 hours and 9 minutes.
Govardhan Puja Sayankal Muhurat is between 3:18 pm to 5:27 pm, also, a total duration of 2 hours and 9 minutes.
