Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati while speaking during press conference in state capital said about Grand Alliance that she won’t beg for seats in next upcoming Assembly elections.
The BSP chief Mayawati has said she “will not go begging to any party” for seats. Days after she declared she would not partner with Congress in any of the upcoming assembly polls, Mayawati said her lone demand from any party who allied with hers was that BSP be given a respectable number of seats, indicating this was the reason why alliance talks with Congress failed.
She while celebrating party founder’s Kanshi Ram birth anniversary on Tuesday said she would soon acquire the “master key” to power, and would make it her mission to improve the lives of Dalits, backwards, STs, minorities and poor upper castes. “I will walk the path shown by BR Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. For this, neither will I break nor bend before any powerful force, but will face every problem and conspiracy and acquire the master key to power,” she said.
Mayawati declares won’t beg for seats from any political party in UP polls:
With five assembly elections in the next two months and the Lok Sabha election of 2019 around the corner, Mayawati is being sought as a key ally by several parties including UP’s Samajwadi Party. But her decision to contest the MP and Rajasthan elections alone has left many wondering whether the proposed ‘Mahagatbandhan’ will at all be a challenge to BJP.
Indicating her decision was not taken under pressure of any other party, Mayawati said she would never compromise on the self-respect of backwards, Dalits and religious minorities, “irrespective” of what she may have to “suffer at the hands of BJP and Congress governments”
“While we do not have much expectation from these two parties, we cannot also tolerate any insult of our people. For that our party put forth a single demand, of a respectable number of seats in any alliance. But BSP will not go begging to any party,” Mayawati said in Delhi, at the Bahujan Prerna Kendra where she has stayed put for few days to prepare for the state elections.
