Contribute to government schemes, Kovind urges IIT students

Kanpur, June 28 (IANS) President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday asked IIT students to contribute in government schemes that are aimed at improving the quality life of citizens of the country.

In his address at the 51st convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur, where he was the chief guest, he also said that they should follow the four principles of discipline, humility, big thinking and taking inspiration from others, to become role models, said a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement.

“Our fast-growing economy offers you huge scope. With your talent, your education and your IIT degree, each of you can be a game changer for India.

“Your professional future may well lie in aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, biomedical research, energy storage, smart grids, renewable energy, financial mathematics, precision manufacture or so many other fields,” he said.

The President also asked the students to contribute to the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna, Digital India, Make in India, Start-up India, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan among others to improve the quality of life of citizens.

Urging the students to not give up in face of adversity and failure but to keep on trying until they succeed, he presented the meritorious students prizes and medals, including the the Presidents Medal, the Director’s Medal, the Ratan Swaroop Memorial Medal and the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal.

He also interacted with the students of the Super-30.

Earlier the President, accompanied by his wife Savita, reached the Chakeri airport here, where he was received by UP Governor Ram Naik and senior officials.
