The name of this river is Umngot river. This river flows through Dawki, a small township of East Jaintia Hills district near the India-Bangladesh border. This area is situated only 95 kilometers from the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong.

It works like a busy business route between India and Bangladesh. This is the unexplored paradise of Meghalaya. The rest of India probably still don’t know about this river.
The unique thing of the river Umngot in Dawki is that its water is completely crystal clear which appears to look like glass and this river is the main fishing base for fishermen. Umngot river is popular for its transparency and people also come here to enjoy boating.
There is no existence of garbage in this river. So that it is so clean. At the time of boating it seems like you are driving boat on the glass due to its transparency. The depth of Umngot river at the coast line is nearly 3 feet and depth goes upto 15 feet in the middle of the river. Cleanliness is strictly followed here.
The Britishers built a bridge on it, a large number of fish are also found in this river. In the winter it becomes even more beautiful and clean, it is said to all the tourists who come here that they should not spread any kind of dirt if they do so, strict action is taken against them. Summer is the best season for visiting this river.
