Lucknow: The Sikh community people today celebrating 549th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev who is the founder of Sikhism. This occasion is very auspicious for whole Sikh religion people as this day is also marked as ‘Prakash Parv’.

 

 

Sikh people use to perform Shabad Kirtan on this day in Gurdwaras along with Guruvani were also recited at religious places as Guru Nanak is considered as the first guru of Sikh religion.

 

 

The followers of Guru Nanak also preached him with other names like Guru Nanak Dev ji, Baba Nanak and Nanakshah. The Gurunanak Dev was born on Kartik Purnima in the village Talwandi situated on the banks of river Ravi which is now situated in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Thousands of people takes dip in river Ganga on occasion of ‘Kartik Purnima’:

Starting early on Saturday, hundreds and thousands of Hindu devotees took a holy dip in the river Ganga on the occasion of ‘Kartik Purnima’.

 

 

Pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan travelled miles to be part of the festivities, an official said.

Amid tight security, all the roads were chock-a-block with people as they headed for the Har Ki Paudi’s Brahm Kund.

 

 

They offered water to the Sun god and gave alms to beggars and the needy. They prayed to Lord Vishnu as this day is devoted to him.
