Supreme Court summons Vijay Mallya to appear before it on July 10th

New Delhi: The honorable Supreme Court today held Indian liquor baron businessman Vijay Mallya guilty of contempt of court for transferring USD 40 million to his children in violation of the court’s order.

 

 

A bench of court comprising Justices A K Goel and U U Lalit said, “We have found respondent number 3 (Mallya) guilty of contempt of court on two grounds.”

The apex court directed Mallya to appear before it on July 10th to argue on the quantum of punishment in the matter who is presently in the United Kingdom.

The order came on a plea by consortium of banks led by SBI, which had said that Mallya had allegedly transferred USD 40 million which he had received from British firm Diageo, to his children in “flagrant violation” of various judicial orders.

The court order came on a petition by a consortium of 13 banks led by State Bank of India seeking the recovery of more than Rs 6,000 crore that they had given to now grounded Kingfisher Airlines.
