Srinagar: A fresh video of at least 30 militants in army fatigues brandishing assault rifles at an unknown location was circulated on social media in the Kashmir Valley.

This one-and-half minutes video showing the militants posing for camera and flaunting their assault weapons, mostly AK-47 rifles.

It appears it was shot recently in an orchard at an undisclosed location. The militants wearing bullet-proof vests and ammunition pouches can be seen parading one by one.

According to police officials said that they were checking the veracity of the video.

The government’s security agencies in Kashmir are examining a new video claimed to have been issued by militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideeen (TuM). The video has been circulating on social media since last week.

A militant, believed to be a fresh recruit, is seen sitting behind a camouflage assault rifle, wearing army fatigues and making threats to police and their ‘sources’. “We know everything about you and we will strike back against you,” the militant warns.

The security establishment has developed apprehensions that this may be an attempt to revive the militant group TuM, which remained active for a few years after it was formed in 1990 by militant commander Yunus Khan with the help of another militant Sajjad Mir. Khan was killed a year later in an encounter.

The TuM, which draws its ideological base mostly from Ahl-e-Hadith traditions as does the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), has, according to sources, recently recruited two youths in Pulwama. “They are making attempts to recruit more youth in their ranks,” a security official said.

The video’s authenticity is yet to be ascertained. The militant who features in it speaks both in Kashmiri and Urdu in his address.
