Final phase campaigning ends today for UP polls

Lucknow: Campaigning for the final phase of Uttar Pradesh polls concluded today evening with the political parties showed their fullest strength to woo the voter, voting for which to be witnessed on 8th March.

All political parties like BJP, joined alliance of SP-Congress and the BSP have shown their best strength in the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Varanasi where he camped for three days.

 

 

In this seventh phase of polling, 40 seats spread over seven eastern districts, including five in Varanasi, will go to polls on March 8th after which curtains will bring down on the two month-long exercise spread over a period of time.

The Prime Minister visited temples, held a road-show and attended a number of public events in the holy city along with several rallies in the region, in the final push by the BJP to reach out to voters in past three days.

Akhilesh’s wife Dimple also joined husband and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh along with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi to match it with their own campaign blitz in the region. Hours after Modi arrived in the city and paid obeisance at the Kashi Vishwanath and Kal Bhairav temples with much fanfare, the two leaders held a roadshow.

On other hand, the BSP supremo Mayawati, who is seeking fifth term as Chief Minister, also addressed a rally in area around 20 km from Varanasi the same day.

The PM today wrapped up his hectic campaign by blaming opposition parties for the pushing Uttar Pradesh in its worst position with a rally at Rohaniya, where he made appealed voters to defeat SP-Congress combine and BSP.
