South Korean K-pop star Goo Hara found dead at 28

K-pop singer and actress Goo Hara was found dead at her home in Seoul,  police have said.  Goo had also appeared on television and released music by herself.

Police say the cause of death is still under investigation. She appeared at a series of comeback performances last week after being hospitalized in May following an alleged suicide attempt.

Lee Yong-pyo, commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said today: ‘A handwritten note that was pessimistic about her life was found on a living room table.’

Fans mourning the 28-year-old’s death have flocked to her funeral home, while her colleagues cancelled their schedules and relayed condolences.

Hara had staged a comeback tour in Japan from November 14 to 19 for her new solo single following a suicide attempt at her apartment in the South Korean capital in May.

The singer and actress, formerly of girl band Kara, had spoken out against cyber bullying in the days after she was hospitalized and pleaded with fans for more positive social media comments.

In October, another K-pop star and actress, Sulli, was found dead at her home near Seoul.  Hara said the two were “like sisters.”

Sulli, 25, was known for her feminist voice and outspokenness that was rare in conservative South Korea. Before her death, she appeared in a TV show and spoke out against online backlash she received over her lifestyle.
