Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi back P Chidambaram

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court had on Tuesday refused to grant any protection from arrest to Chidambaram in the INX Media case, following which the CBI issued a notice to him asking him to appear before the investigation officer “within two hours” after failing to find him at his residence. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also issued a fresh lookout circular against the former Union minister.

Coming in support of former Union finance minister P Chidambaram, Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the Centre over the action of probe agencies against former Union finance minister P Chidambaram while he alleged that the government was misusing probe agencies.

Modi’s govt is using the ED, CBI and sections of a spineless media to character assassinate Chidambaram. I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power, Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Earlier, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi had alleged that Chidambaram was being “hunted down” as he speaks the truth which is “inconvenient to cowards”. “An extremely qualified and respected member of the Rajya Sabha, P Chidambaram ji has served our nation with loyalty for decades including as Finance Minister & Home Minister,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.

After the Delhi High Court refused to grant any protection from arrest to the former finance minister in the INX media case, the CBI issued a notice to him on Tuesday, asking him to appear before the investigation officer within two hours, after failing to find him at his residence.

In response, the legal team of Chidambaram said the notice did not mention the specific provision of law under which he was summoned and asked not to take any coercive action against him till his petition comes for hearing in the Supreme Court Wednesday morning.
