UP govt announces free travel for women on Raksha Bandhan

Uttar Pradesh: On the occasion of Rakshabandhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a special gift to all sisters in the state by making transportation free for women across the state in all UP State Roadways Transport Corporation Limited (UPSRTC) AC and Non-AC buses.

The free bus travel order will come into effect from August 25 midnight and will remain effective till 12 on August 26 night. “It will be a gift from the state government to all the sisters in the state to travel free in the AC and non-AC buses as per their convenience to tie Rakhi on their brothers’ hands,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

“On the Chief Minister’s initiative, we have made bus travel free for women and girls on the occasion of Rakshabandhan,” said UPSRTC Managing Director P Guru Prasad.

An order has been issued by the UPSRTC MD to all depots across the state. Women and girls can travel across length and breadth of the state to cover any amount of distance without paying a penny for their travel.

Male co-travellers will, however, be charged as usual. Travel for male kids up to five years will be free while for those aged between 5 to 12 years, a half ticket will be required.

The free bus travel services from the state government will be valid only for 24 hours and will come to an end at 12 on August 26 night when the festival is over.

All the women in Uttar Pradesh will be able to travel to any part of the state, irrespective of distance, free of cost via any AC or Non-AC buses of the UPSRTC for free.

The free bus travel order will come into effect from August 25 midnight and will remain effective till 12 on August 26 night.
