Ayodhya case: Hearing to start on 2 August; SC affixes 31 July as deadline for mediation panel report

The Supreme Court will hear the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title case in an open court on August 2, the Supreme Court said today. This was after the three-member mediation panel in the Ayodhya land title dispute case submitted its status report before the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi said, “We now fix the date of hearing on August 2. We request the mediation committee to inform the outcome of the proceedings as of July 31.”
On July 11, the Supreme Court had asked the three-member mediation panel to submit its status report by July 18 (today). The court said this while hearing a bunch of petitions that had requested it to end the mediation process and the hear the Ayodhya case on a daily basis. The court had asked the petitioner to wait for the mediation panel to submit its report.
The mediation panel comprise former Supreme Court judge FMI Kalifulla, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu, a renowned mediator. They were tasked to explore ways to find an amicable solution to the decades-old land title dispute.
