New Delhi: In our country nowadays lakhs of IAS aspirants take up Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil exams. Basically, if some clear prelims and unable to cross the main bridge. While if few are able to clear both but stumble at the UPSC board interview.

Many aspirants to clear IAS exam adopt many wrong approaches knowingly or unknowingly and fail in the UPSC Civil Services Exam. They basically make many mistakes in their preparation, particularly regarding the IAS mock exams before Prelims.

Not following the multiple round answering techniques (3-2-1-0-E method): Solve UPSC question paper in 4 parts which based on the number of answer choices you are able to eliminate and use multiple rounds.

Less number of questions being attempted: keep an idea of cutoff score and don’t attempt only 50-60 number of questions, try to achieve high score preferably above 85, with good accuracy. Cutoff score can increase or decrease based on the difficulty level of the question paper and number of vacancies.

Lack of revision: due to lack of poor grip to the syllabus and even the current affairs questions revise periodically as it is not possible to remember almost a year for preparation.

Random guessing and carelessness: test yourself with free mock test exam and think before answering don’t lose marks for being careless and lazy or do random guess for negative marking .apply logic and common sense for wrong options.

 

 

Answer the question asked: Aspirants make common mistakes they don’t read question properly and end up answering wrong, ignoring what is really required for example: “Why have the resource rich African and South Asian countries remained poor for decades? Explain.”

Here, you don’t need to waste words and time on talking about comparing poverty figures of both regions, but start listing reasons for the poverty. Lack of time management and study plan: follow good time management techniques with proper strategy for the subjects and study material.

Attitude to give it all: civil services require dedicated preparation throughout so candidates should keep an attitude to repeat it once more even after the failure and prepare again and again. This is not for lethargic ones. Stay positive and eliminate your mistakes.
