Filmmaker and Rani Mukerji’s father Ram Mukherjee passes away

Mumbai : Veteran filmmaker-screenwriter Ram Mukherjee, father of Bollywood star Rani Mukerji, passed away on Sunday. According to sources, Ram was not keeping well for sometime and died at 4 am today. The cause of death is not known yet. His body will be cremated at 2 pm.

Ram Mukherjee worked in both Hindi and Bengali cinema. He was one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. He was most known for helming films like Hum Hindustani (1960), which starred Sunil Dutt, Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh in lead roles, and the Dilip Kumar-Vyjayanthimala starrer Leader (1964). Mukherjee also produced Rani’s debut Hindi film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat in 1997. He also directed and produced the actor’s Bengali debut movie Biyer Phool (1996), which also starred Prosenjit Chatterjee.

He was a well-known Hindi and Bengali film producer and screenwriter. He was also one of the founders of the filmalaya studios and has directed some super hit films as well.

He has also directed and produced Rani Mukerji’s debut film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat and has some well-known films to his credit.

His body will be taken to his house – Janki Kutir at 10.30 am. And the cremation ceremony will take place at Vile Parle Pawan Hans at 2 pm today.
